Some of the best scenery around Alanya starts where the asphalt ends. On this full-day jeep safari you climb out of the resort strip in an open 4x4 convoy and head for the foothills of the Taurus Mountains, where the road turns to dust and the air smells of pine instead of sunscreen. The route threads through citrus orchards and banana plantations, with an early photo break at a waterfall near the Obacai River before the serious climbing begins.
Higher up, the convoy pulls over at panoramic viewpoints where the whole Alanya coastline stretches out below — bring a camera, because this is the shot everyone takes home. Village life is part of the day too: you visit a traditional house for a taste of mountain hospitality, look inside a village mosque, and stop for photos at the Dim Dam, whose turquoise reservoir looks almost unreal against the bare rock.
The reward for a dusty morning is the Dim River. Lunch is served at a riverside restaurant with platforms set over the water, and afterwards there is time to swim — the river runs mountain-cold even in August, which is exactly the point. If the day's programme allows, you can add a visit to the famous Dim Cave for a small entrance fee paid locally. Fair warning for the drive itself: water fights between the jeeps are a summer tradition here, so pack a dry change of clothes and keep your phone sealed in a waterproof pouch.
Everything practical is taken care of. Pickup and drop-off are included from hotels across the whole Alanya area, from Kestel and Mahmutlar to Avsallar, İncekum and Okurcalar, with professional drivers at the wheel throughout — you never drive yourself. Lunch, guiding and local travel insurance are included; drinks and the optional cave are extra. The tour runs daily through the season from April to November. It is an easy, sociable adventure suited to families as well as groups of friends, though we do not recommend it for pregnant guests or anyone with back or neck problems, as the unpaved roads are genuinely bumpy.
